Climate change and Sustainable Development
Climate Change is an important challenge for almost every country on this planet. Climate changes are affecting the living condition, economies of Countries and it is also leading to new challenges that nobody is ready to face. Climate changes are leading to rise in sea level, uneven rainfall, and disturbance in the whole ecological cycle. It is also having a huge impact on weather, which is leading to more extreme and harsh weather. It is recorded that 2019 was the second warmest year on record.
The emission of greenhouse gases is the main cause of climate change. Although the amount of emission has been reduced due to the ongoing Pandemic because many countries economic activities have either stopped or reduced. But this reduction is not permanent; the level will rise again once things become normal.
Some other major causes of Climate change are as follows:-
- Greenhouse gases are also a major cause of climate change. Natural as well as human activities are responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases. Gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, etc are some of the greenhouse gases which gases are responsible for the rise in temperature and therefore leading to heating the planet at a faster rate.
- The excessive use of fossils fuels in automobiles and Industries is also responsible for climate change. The burning of fossil fuels leads to the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere which eventually leads to global warming and climate change.
- Deforestation is also an important cause of climate change. Forests are being cut down on a large scale for industrial and agricultural use. Trees absorb the carbon dioxide present in the air and the cutting down of trees means that carbon dioxide is absorbed in the atmosphere which leads to global warming and climate change.
Effects of Climate Change
The effects of climate change are clearly on the environment. Glaciers are melting down at a faster rate; there is an increase in the normal temperature. Climate changes are resulting in the increase of sea level and water level in rivers. Uneven rainfall due to climate change is also affecting the agriculture sector. Climate change is also leading to huge disturbances in the ecological cycle. Many creatures are finding it hard to survive due to these climate changes and it is leading to their extinction. Climate changes are also leading to floods and droughts in many regions of the World. It is also causing an adverse effect on human health. The environmental changes are leading to poor air quality, increased levels of pollution, and many new air and water-borne diseases.
Sustainable Development is closely related to climate change. As we know almost every country in the World is promoting Sustainable Development and is working towards achieving sustainable goals. Climate Change acts as a major hindrance in achieving sustainable development and it is predicted that climate change will lead to grinding poverty all over the world.
Although Developed countries are contributing more towards the factors that are leading to climatic change, it is predicted that poor and Developing countries are expected to be more affected by the climatic changes. Their economic, social and natural system will be severely affected.
It is high time that we should all come together and work towards achieving sustainable goals and save our planet from the adverse effect of climatic change. We should make people aware of the effects of climatic change and we should limit the factors that are leading to climatic changes. Strict laws and action should be taken against the violators that are contributing to the climatic change. International Organizations should also take severe steps in bringing down the global temperature and to stop global warming so that there is a better world to live in for us as well as our future generation.
